Default Motor Oil

I've always wanted the best for my beast. Sounds like most of us do. I've used 10-30 full synthetic in my 5.2 since it was new. Now-a-days though I'm hearing locally both at parts houses and other Dodge owners that Shell Rotella for Diesel engines is the best protection out there. Has anyone else been hearing this? What are you guys into (oil wise)? Should I make the change? 15W40; 20W50; Diesel??? in my Truck?
I dunno? And then there are super duper non bypass filters that the local parts stores are pushing. Can you say Cha Ching? Opinions? Comments? I don't mind spending a few extra $$ for the best, but $50.00 oil changes? Sheesh! I still do my oil changes @ 3-4K miles. Just can't bring myself to go 15K like Mobil says.

AMSOIL or Mobil 1. Either one of these combined with an OEM oil filter will be the best protection you can get. If you choose to take advantage of the extended life oils, just change your filter every 3-4k miles and top the oil off. However, in my opinion, if you choose to outright change the oil every 3-4k, you're not wasting anything. Do what you feel comfortable with.

I agree with you. 15k miles is way to long. I get nervous even around 5k miles. I ran mobil one clean 7500 for a change and then went back to dino oil. I saw a 1 mpg improvment with the sythetic blend so thats what I'm runnin now. Shell makes great HD oils, not so good reg. oils.

I run Castrol Syntec w/ a WIX filter on both my vehicles. I decided to go with Castrol mostly because of good reviews and Sam's club sells it 6 for $16.00. I change oil and filter every 4-5k. I wouldn't trust going to long in between changes. Oh yeah,I've been using Restore with the change since the topic was posted about it a few months ago. I'm happy with it. Can't notice any difference, but I guess a little extra protection will never hurt.
