Default Y pipe before the converter?

I'm getting shocks installed tomorrow morning. I think the cat is starting to rattle, going to get the mechanic to check it out. I have called around on prices in a new converter, one shop saidthat they are cutting the old duel inlet/single outletunitand installing a Y pipe and then a single in/single out converter and what ever muffler you want, etc.

Have you guys ever heard of this for a single exhuast system and what do you think of this application.

Rattling of cat converter is an indication that the inside substrate is starting to break apart and it seems that your Dodge catalytic converter is overheated which could likely be the cause of the failure. This problem should be taken care of right away. If the substrate breaks down further it could plug the exhaust and could leave you stranded on the side of the road.... Anyway, I haven't heard of this single exhaust system before... But one thing is for sure, a dual exhaust is said produce far more horsepower than a single exhaust; however, the cat-back system would have to be a “true” dual exhaust in order to be able to produce such horsepower. That is, this is the way you want your exhaust to be... Good luck!!!
