Default how much psi?

Ok this may seem like a no-brainer for you guys but how much should I inflate my tires to? I just got some Mickey Thompson ATZs. The max tire pressure is 65psi, so says the sidewall. I always just went with the rule of 5 or so psi under the max and never had any issues. There is a reason behind this question.

i'd only run 65 if loaded. otherwise about 45-50 or else it rides too rough and skatey.

What size are they?

Do the chalk test to get the correct psi.

Fill the tires to a specific psi, rub chalk across the entire width of the tread in an area, drive for a little while, then look to see where chalk still remains. If it is in the middle, you need more air. If it is only left on the outside edges, you need less air. Repeat until you have it so that all the chalk gets removed evenly from edge to edge.

they are 285/65/16s
chalk test is a good idea. I had them put on at hibdon tires and they only filled the fronts up to 40psi and did one rear to 50 and the other around 40psi. The front looked really flat and were making the truck drive like crap. I filled them up to around 60 last night and drives like it did before I changed the tires. I am going to find some chalk and do this test. Maybe when it stops raining. Its been raining non stop for a month now. Who wants to drive to oklahoma and go get muddy?
