2001 Ram 1500 air conitioning trouble
I'm a newbie. Not sure if I posted in the rigth place. I need help with
a problem with the air conditioner in my 2001 dodge ram 1500. The
compresser wstarts and stops and no cool air. I check and the system is
charged. I remove the sensor on the tank near the firewall and jumper
it and the conpreeer starts and keep running. The line to the firewall
gets icey cool but still no cool air in the truck. What is that sensor
looking at and any idea what could be giving me this condition. Is there
a valve in the system that is not working. Getting hot need help. Thanks

You are low on charge if the line gets icy. The 2 lines coming from the dash (in and out of the evap.) should both be about the same temperature. The (sensor) isn't, it's a pressure switch that tells the compressor to come on or off to keep the evaporator from freezing up. Add a can of R134a (pure; no lubricants, sealers, etc.) and a few ounces of ultra violet leak detector. You have a leak somewhere.
I used a gauge and it said the system was charged. If its a pressure
switch maybe something in the evaparater is plugged up. The compresser
will not run unless I remove and jumper that switch on the can near the
firewall.
