Default Coolant to high

Hey. My truck runs like a top but whenever my truck warms up it doesnt seem to go back down to around 200 or so until it gets to like 240. I flushed and changed all the coolant but it still does it. Probably the thermostat right?

Probably should have started with the 'stat. Then coolant change. But, yeah could be the 'stat.

definitely start with the tstat, second would be the clutch fan. if it does come back down your pump is likely fine.

Looking at these Magnums it seems like the stat change would be a job.

But you need to get that done quick, you are killing your gaskets.

Hmmm, I just thought of something, most stats fail in the open position, it SHOULD, if the stat was bad, be taking a long time to warm-up. Oh well, change the stat, check the fan clutch.

Did you do a flush or just a change? Remember, the best change is done when the block is drained too, (outside of a back-flush which is the best).

Thats a good point. Most do fail open...or closed which would be worse. Could there be an air pocket in the coolant. I would lean towards no, because he already changed the coolant, but it wouldn't hurt to check that out also. There are a few topics about that on here. Try searching for it and that will tell you the way to check and correct that. Not sure if thats it, but its another item to check.

Hey guys. Just letting you know I changed the t-stat. I went with a 180 and everything is working great now. I took it out on the highway and it doesnt move above 180 now. The old stat was opening but not all the way so thats why it was going to such a high temp. Thanks for you help

just thought i would add that the job really isn't bad at all when you remove the alternator and un bolt the ac compressor and move it to the side. I know some guys said they did it without all that because it seemed like it would take to long and what not but really for the time it takes to undoa handful of bolts you would probably spend at least twice as much time trying to work around that crap. I know i would never attempt this again without removing that stuff.
