Looks are only half of a truck. You can put a grand or so into it and make it all jaked up thats not hard. if the tranny is f**d befor you even get into it plan on replacing it soon. Bought my 2000 ram 1500 sport 4x4 with 92k miles on it i paid 7 so ur not getting that great of a deal. You can find MUCH better trucks out there dont be a sucker for a good looker any junker can be made to a looker.
Any check engine lights on??? Does the light work? I was looking at a truck recently and the dealer pulled the bulb out. Any history codes.
Sounds a little familiar to what I had a couple weeks ago, could be as little as a sensor or a major tranny issue...
BY THE WAY......

if you can get it for 5, might be not all that bad even with a deuced trans....you can get a much upgraded trans (guys on here seem to like dr evil, i went with smr partly because he's in canada so shipping is so much cheaper and i've been happy with it despite having done the rebuild myself...scarry, i know..) and you won't have to worry about it, even with a truck that has a good trans it will likely cause you problems in the future. then again i'm the type to buy a fix-er-upper, so do what you like. if you can get it for cheap and put a good trans in it you're better off anyways....i've never really had a problem with minor accidents either, as long as it's been fixed properly and didn't have frame damage, you should be alright on that account. good luck, a lot of people love these trucks, myself included!
figure that a well done, complete transmission rebuild will cost you about $1500-2000. so simply deduct that, and any other needed maintenance or damage from the kbb private party value. offer that price and stand firm, take it or leave it. edit.. w/o looking it up i'd guess 5000-5500.
also remember that ALL salesmen are habitual liars and they will tell you absolutely anything to get your money. he'll tell you that all it needs is a flush. he'll tell you they rebuilt the trans when all they did was adjust the bands or replace a solenoid. he'll tell you he paid a lot for it when in fact he just f***'ed the prev owner out of it for a song. understand all that, hopefully find a mechanic you can trust and only offer what its worth. be aware that these are pretty good trucks, but, if you have to pay a mechanic for all maintenance they can be a huge money pit. plenum, cat, sensors, steering, bearings, axle u-joints, dash, heater core, etc.

you guys all rock by the way, your all very kind and helpful....anyways this truck though, seemed mint. if the tranny wasnt wining, everytihng seemed fine. If the tranny still wines after i re-test drive it though, ill ask him to either drop the price down, or i will not buy the truck, period. Also, since it got into a car accident and he didnt tell me about that (which violates federal law), i thnk he should drop it to atleast 5500-6000, what do you guys thiink?
If this guy is willing to attempt to hide an accident history from you, what else do you think he could be hiding? Stuff like that makes me real leary about dealing with someone.
Well guys heres the new scoop. Yesterday the dealer sent the truck to exxon auto repair, and they gave the dealer a list of **** that needed to be done to the vehicle for it to have their sticker. So this is what they are doing as it stands now:
-Transmission Flush and new Tranny Filter
-Sway Bar
-Front pads and rotors
-Fix E-brake
-New U-bolt
-Allignment
-State inspection sticker
So, they told me to come by tomorrow around 12 to re-test drive it. So with that said, if the truck runs smooth and the tranny does too, then i will def. get this truck. With all those repairs done though, it will stay at their projected 7,000. I will try my best to chizzle a little bit, but i am no longer trading in my neon, i will sell it seperately for maxium value. So im pretty excited right now, hopefully theyll really fix that truck up. I found out also that this this truck is the off-road edtioon, so the oversized tires and suspension came stock with the vehicle, so i no longer have to worry about getting smaller tires for the tranny. But that also means that the oversized tires are eliminated frrom playing a part in the ****ty tranny, so hopefully the tranny flush can fix the late shifting, ive seen flushes restart entire tranny lives. If the truck gets all that done, do you guys think i am getting a good deal now??

IF the tranny issue goes away, then yeah its a good deal. But i'm skeptical. here is something worth looking at. I saw this in an earlier post. http://www.bionicdodge.com/Download/...Adjustment.pdfIts the T.V. cable adjustment. If this guy was doing a lot ofoff roading maybe he fooled around with it. Let us know either way.
