Default Ball joints

95 Ram 1500 2 wheel drive I believe ball joints are ready to fall out.
I have 234,150 miles and local shop said they need replaced.
Today while driving at highway speeds on Turnpike it felt like front wheel was going to come off.
I got it home.
I am short on cash and was wondering what all needs to be taken off to replace them.
I looked and both top and bottom ball joints look to be bolted in. I was told they should have been rivited.
I can get a press at Autozone to use free. I was told just unbolt the old ones with something to hold spring compressed and pound them out with hammer than press in new ones. I am only a shade tree mechanic on a good day and never tried this before.
Can I get advice on how to replace them.............Thanks

If you are two wheel drive they are rivited in and they are a pain to remove. Once the riviots are out it's easy-squeezy. I did my lower driverand all I unhooked was the shock, tie rod and lower part of the stabilizer link.

On 4wd the are pressed in and you can rent a removal kit. 4wd is easier to do.

I see a bolt on bottom of both upper and lower ball joints. Do they also have rivets on the top end of both ball joints.
Or mabey they have been replaced before?

If those are originals, you're lucky to be alive! Order replacements from http://www.rockauto.com Even with FedEx shipping, Moog ball joints are cheaper than at your local FLAPS (Friendly Local Auto Parts Store). Plan on spending a weekend doing this since it's your first time. Once you get one side done, the other goes much quicker.

If they have bolts then they've been replaced. That'll be an easy job.

Rock Auto was not cheaper than local here. I got moogs for a better deal.

Does the origional ball joint have a nut on bottom and rounded flat top.
I am not sure if I have OEM or aftermarket ones in now.....
