Default Rear Door of 99 Dodge Ram

The rear door of my 99 Dodge Ram 1500 will not open. It seems like the top will unlatch but the bottom will not thus the door does not open. Any suggestions?

Same problem with my 01. Haven't dug too deep, but when I removed the bolts on the handle you use from the outside and lifted the entire handle, the door opened. There must be some sort of adjustment for this, I just have not spent the time looking for it. Let us know if you find it as I know others with the same issues ( Door won't open and no time to spend diagnosing it)

This is something that happens ALL the time to these dodges. My right rear door would not open. Took it to the place I bought it and they said that dirt and road grit gets into the bottom latch and cakes around it. Said you almost always have to replace the latch, $10-$12 part. Labor is a bitch though, you have to remove the panel to gain access to the hardware and need to use a flathead to jimmy the latch open from the bottom.

Good Luck!
