Default Outside Temp. guage

Hello everyone....So I have this 99 Ram, and I see where the stock outside thermometer guage goes in the overhead console, and I was wanting to know if I could buy one from the dealer or a parts supplier and have it installed. I would really like to have one, but don't know if this would be possible. Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you for the reply. I had looked into the ones that are built into the rearview mirror, and was surprised at how much the mirror costs, upwards of a few hundred dollars. I was wondering if a person could find a replacement stock one at say, a wrecking yard, and be able to install it any cheaper. Or would it not be worth the hassle? Thanks in advance.

I'm in the middle of doing the same project. I got the whole new console and overhead display from a salvage yard for $50. The hard part is the wiring. The trucks without the premium console are not wired for it (in most cases). Some trucks like mine came with the power heated mirrors and I found the temp sensor plug in under the dash, but it disappears under the hood somewhere. The temp sensor is the easier part and I already have a donor truck to get that part. The other harness from the console to the computer is a bit more work. The dash needs to be loosened and tilted forward. After that, it is supposed to be easy to access the harness.
From what I've read, a full dealer installation with parts comes to around $1,100 dollars and 9.5 hours of work. The display itself is said to be around $400, but I got mine for $50 and the harness and sensors from the dealer are about $55. I am debating taking my truck to the dealer for the harness installation as I have gotten little help with any information about removing the dash. I played around with it last night, but after 1 hour deep and only a small wiggle on the passenger side, I decided to throw in the towel and put it back together.
Good luck and post any success that you have.

Thank you for the insight! Now I'm not so sure whether it would be a worthy task. But I'll keep you posted.
