Default Trans not shifting when low on gas

I just hit 90k on my truck, and for about the last 4k whenever I am low on gas(when the gas light is on) I have to manually shift it from first to second then it will shift fine for the rest of the drive. Now when it shows i'm on empty it will not shift at all. So all I have to do is go fill it up and then it shifts fine. Anyone else have this problem or know how to fix it? With our amazing MPG i'm almost always low on gas and this little bug in my tranny is starting to annoy me[:@]

never herd of anything like that. Really interested in the answer. If i had to guess, and this is just a wide open guess, i would say an electrical issue. Sorry that i couldn't really help you out but i would like to hear the answer also.

That is whatI was guessing. Another thing that happens is randomly when i'll be driving all of my lights in the dash come on and all of my gauges go back down to zero. I'm scared to take it to the stealership. Hopefully someone knows whats happening?

I wonder if something in the fuel level sender isn't shorting out. Does the idiot light still come on when you get down to an 1/8 of a tank?

if i were you i would try checking wiring harness between pcm and tranny / fuel tank.. electrical issue sounds more like the culprit.. i hanve ever heard of it before.. but thats gotta be the only remote possibility.. one thing you can try.. is to find the wire going to the fuel pump that is for your guage.. and cut it.. leave plenty of wire on both ends so you can mend it with a plug.. but if its that.. that might be a good way to find out.. no guage.. = light.. do it with a full tank of gas .. see what happens.. that will tell you if its related to the light or not.. good luck dude.. let us know

by the way, do you ever notice lack of power when low on gas or does the engine work and just not engage the next gear?
