i think my front wheel bearings are about ready to go. has anyone replaced the front ones themselves or give me advice on how to do this? any and all info is great! thanks a lot

ha that slipped my mind. it's a 1998 1500 5.9L 4x4, the right front exsepcially. when the wheel lugs are tight the wheel wobbles

 

Maybe the wheel's bent...[&:]

 

not so much wobbles i guess, but like a bolt that is too long you have play with it, this is how my wheel is. not like a bent bike rim.

 

you are in luck i just did mine last weekend, and we have the same trucks too

first check to see that it is your wheel barrings, lift up one wheel at a time grab the top and bottem of it and try to wiggle it if there is play then time for new wheel barrings, if they are to the point where the wheel is wobbling dont drive it untill you fix it or you will have a much bigger bill when the wheel falls off

if it is the wheel barrings they are easy to do if you want a write up let me know and ill do up a quick one for ya

 

sounds great Ryans590. there is play but the wheel isn't going to fall off soon though...i hope. i figure the new barrings and seals are going to cost me $20 and a shop will charge $100 with my luck soi would like to try to tackle them myself. but it would be great if you could give me the steps! thanks a lot!

20 dollars ? mine cost 159.00 at cost and me installing the hub.. OH ! i got the bearing and hub as one

 

yah mike padodgeram is right the barring is part of the whole hub asembley and it isent a servisable part the whole hub needs to be replaced mine were $160 cdn each...good news it that there practally fool proof to put in

anyways the write up (im gonna warn you now im not an english majour i spell bad be for warned)

step 1: chock wheels, (all the safty mumbo jumbo)
step 2 lift up the wheel your gonna change the barring on
step 3: remove tire
step 4: remove brake callaper, there is 2 allen head bolts on the back side once they are out lift it out you may half to wiggle it a bit and be careful not to stress the break like you dont wanna half to change them at the same time do you lol, place it on something so it cant fall and isent stressing the line
step 5 remove roter, if they have never been of before there will be a cupple clips on the wheel studs, break them off then the roter will just pull off
step 6 remove cotter pin from axle nut
step 7 remove axle nut, the way i did this is i took a pry bar suck it in the nuckle by the wheel to keep the axle from spinning (when you put it in put it in such a way that it is resting on the forged part not the u-joint) the nut is metric but can be removed with a 1 11/16 or 1 3/4 (i used 1 3/4 cuz i dont have a metric set that big and my 1 11/16 was missing but the 1 3/4 was a bit sloppy) it may take a lot of force to break it loose if the barring has been gone for a while and has been getting hot, i broke a 1/2 in drive breaker bar and had to borrow a buddys 3/4 drive and about 8 feet of pipe
step 8 remove the 3 bolts holding the hub assy on you will need a 12 point 9/16 socket (1/2 in drive) and once they start to come out you will half to use a boxed end wrench
step 9 remove hub assy. it will most likey be rusted in take a thin chassle or a blade screwdriver that isent your favort and hammer it in-bee-tween the hub and the housing working your away around it untill it comes off when you take the hub off be carefull not to move the axle too much or pull it out, if you do you may scar the axle seal and that is a much harder job
step 10 when the put the new hub on and work your way back of the order it all came off
step 11 stand back and enjoy and send me a beer j/k

Try these guys for the hub assembly. Not bad on the price and will be there in a day or so. I did mine on my 98 pretty easy job to do other than actually finding the socket to take the hub bearing nut off. Just be careful when putting your axle shafts back in, so as not to damage the inner seals.
