The Sport package is not the same as the Off-Road package. The Sport package is just an appearance thing (painted grille and bumpers, ect.), while the Off-Road package is just like sbrunn9said. The Off-Road was 2000-2001 only, so you will have no problems in that regard on your '98.

the offroad package is about 1.5 inches taller with different springs all the way around. Tow hooks, 4.10 gears, 275/70r17 tires from the factory. The reason why suspension companies say it'll not work with offroad package is becuase it will not yield the same amount of lift as if your truck did not have the offroad package. It'll wield 1.5 to 2 inches less lift then a "normal" ram...
