Default Off Road Package

I want to install a lift in my 98 Ram1500 sport . The question I have is that the lift I am looking at says it will not fit the off road package. What is the differance between the sport off road package and the reg package?

This questions been asked alot. The the obvious things are that off road has tow hooks in the front, 17" rims instead of 16", sits like 2" higher, and it says "off road" on the back.

The Sport package is not the same as the Off-Road package. The Sport package is just an appearance thing (painted grille and bumpers, ect.), while the Off-Road package is just like sbrunn9said. The Off-Road was 2000-2001 only, so you will have no problems in that regard on your '98.

the offroad package is about 1.5 inches taller with different springs all the way around. Tow hooks, 4.10 gears, 275/70r17 tires from the factory. The reason why suspension companies say it'll not work with offroad package is becuase it will not yield the same amount of lift as if your truck did not have the offroad package. It'll wield 1.5 to 2 inches less lift then a "normal" ram...

Here's what the Dodge website says:

The Ram Off-Road 4x4 packages a recalibrated suspension (additional 2' lift) and LT275/70R17 all-terrain tires mounted to 17-by-8-inch cast aluminum wheels.

A unique steering gear for low-speed agility, and a limited-slip 4.10 ratio differential.

The package includes an upsized battery and alternator, auxiliary transmission oil cooler, a larger radiator, front tow hooks, skid plates, fog lamps, heavy-duty service equipment and unique Off-Road decals.
