Hey All. DO you know theclicking noisethat the clutch on the AC Compressor makes when it cycles on and off if you are low on refrigerant? Well I went over some rough terrain two days ago ( not too rough...just a few rocky hills and dips) and since then I'm getting that sound from underneath my truck but its not constant. It isn't my AC btw...Thats the only noise I can think of to describe it though. Anyone know what to check or what it could possibly be? I know my transfer case has a really really high pitched squeal after I drive it for a little bit. Its not loud. Its almost like a dog whitsle it so quiet but I'm curious to know if this is normal and if my other sound can be coming from the transmission or something like that. Thanks.

 

Do you have a carrier bearing in the drive shaft (2 part shaft). I had the same thing happen to me and I must have caught a rock just right and hit that bearing nothing else mind you. Anyway it came appart and was hitting the front shaft dust shield. It was an$18.00 fix.I have also grabed twigs and crap that make that noise cause they are caught in the rotating asembly. You didn't say if it happens when you are moving or sitting still soI just assumed.

 

Sorry. It happens when Im moving and seems to go with the speed of the truck ex faster click and rattle when truck goes faster. Im dumb when it comes to anything but motors so what rotating assembly are you referring to?

 

Is it more noticable when you turn?

I had a broken "clip" in my rear diff.(limited slip)that caused a "clicking" sound, but mostly while turning to the left or right. Sorry to say the only fix was a new diff. Can't tell you the specifics on the part replaced. Had someone else do the work and get the parts.

 

Hey. Well the problem was my driver side drum. I went and rebuilt them yesterday and when I took of the drum (which took hours btw) I found a mess of springs and ****. Rebuilt both sides completely and now I have no rattle or squeeks.
