rear tires and/or drums
Hey. I just got a set of Discover STs on my truck and I like them alot. Since I got them my rear end has been squeeking everytime I hit the smallest bump. Now it's not every bump but most of them. When I kick against the rear tire it will chirp either side. Earlier today it would chirp the back passenger side but just now it would chirp the back driver side. I get in as close as I can and tap the tire and it sounds like its the rim and the drum or something inside the drum. When I kick or pound on the front tires they are solid. No noise at all! Now both of my rear tires will either chirp and/or make a clanking sound as if they are slightly loose. Is this clanking sound normal because of the drums in the back or should these back tires be solid and make no noise either? Any suggestions on what to look for as far as the chirp goes. Its driving me nuts. Should mention it was making this chirp before I got new tires however it was not as often or loud. Thanks in advance
Are these tires the same size or taller? If the tires are taller, they are probably putting more force on the axle (in and out) and you're just hearing it more often or louder than before.
The rear should be a c-clip axle so there will be a very slight movement when it moves to the clip. If the brakes aren't adjusted well, it could be sliding across the shoe and that's what you hear.
Maybe someone else has another idea?

They are the same size. I'm not to worried about the small movement because like you said its supposed to a bit however the chirp is whats bothering me. I cannot figure out what it is and why its switching sides.
As long as you're sure the lugs are tight, I'd pull the tires and make sure the drums are adjusted properly. They don't stay adjusted very well. When I rebuilt mine, I could pull the drums off by hand without turning the adjusting star. If yours are out, it could be the shoe and drum that's squeeking.
It's a cheap check, anyway.

look ing the manual. it will tell you how to adjust the brakes. If you dont have it you can download it. Its on this site somewhere, ill try finding it for ya. Its not to hard to adjust them, but it is important.
