1995 engine swap with a 2001
I have a 1995 2500 Dodge Ram with a 360 engine that has expired. I just bought a 2001 360 enginethat I was told would work in my truck. In the process of pulling out my old engine I noticed a few differences such as vacum lines in the intake, fuel injector connectors, and what I believe is a water temp sending unit for the gauge. Will this engine still work in my truck with minor adjustments and is their anything else I have to worry about?
i think the majority of your problem is that your truck is obo 1 and the new engine is obo2. what i would do it just swap ur intake manifold from your old engine onto the new one. im not sure about the gauge. could u possibly get a picture of it because you lost me to as what your talking about. ur intake will bolt up to the new engine fine. i also recommend if your gunna go that far pull the plenum pan off the intake and replace the gasket now while you have it all apart.
i had to swap my 2001 engine for a 98 and had to switch the intake manifold and all that stuff ur talkin about (fuel injector connectors, etc..) it wasnt that big of a pain i just did it all while both engines were out basically. but the 98 engine fit in my 2001 fine
Thanks for your responses. The sensor that I was referring to is a water temp sensor with one wire coming out of it. It is located by the thermostat and hose. The 2001 engine does not have this sensor. From my experience the one wire temp sensor is usually a gauge wire. I also was wondering why you guys recommend changing the intake. I was planning on putting tees on the vacuum lines to help compensate for the lack of vacuum ports on 2001 engine. Do you think I should go head and swap the intake any ways?
yes absolutely positively pull off the intake and put a hughes aluminum belly pan on it before you put it in the truck. the steel pan is probably already leaking, if not just a matter of time.
buy the whole kit with new bolts and gaskets.
