What's a good Tire for Ice,Snow,And Rain???
Can you guys help me find a tire that is going to excell in the winter? I just picked this Ram 1500 up, and the tires that came with it are called "Dunlop Radial-Mud Rovers". They look sweet, and are in a 35/12.5/17 size, so they are definately huge and I really like the way they make the truck look. Anyways, I did notice though that the tread does't look like it will be good in winter and on the icey roads, and as guessed, the ratings don't give it that good of a rating on the ice. I can just picture the truck ice skating across the road and sliding into another car considering it's so high up. Can you guys help me find a tire in that same size, that isn't too much money, but will do very good in the winter and on ice and snow!! Let me know, your expertise and advice will help me out a lot guys!
Dunlops are a good all-round tire. I hear lots of good things about them. I can't remember the exact name of the all-year tire.... I think it was Radial Rover..
I run the BFG AT KO's and they perform well on all of the above. I wouldn't count on them doing much in mud though and they are a little expensive. You may want to look at the ProComp Mud Terrian or X-Terrians. Both have large lugs for heavy snow and mud and they also have a sipes for the rain. In particular take a look at the center tread of the mud terrians.
Ive been running the Cooper Discoverer S/T 's for a year now and they performed excellent in the snow last winter. Just remember, no matter how good the tiretreads are ......if your going too fast for the conditions you'll ice skate no matter what.

I have the BFG All Terrain T/A KO's, dry traction and snow traction is ok, but I have nothing but complaints about these in the rain. Making a slow right turn and moderate acceleration put me into a 270* spin in an average rainstorm last month. Ended up cockeyed in the turning lane when it finally slid to a stop, all this was under 20mph.
I'll be going with the Dunlop Mud Rovers when I pick out new tires.

I also agree the BFG's suck in the rain... I found myself in intersections more than once on wet pavement when all 4 tires locked up and had no bite on the pavement.
i run the pro comp xtreme at's right now and love them... 46k miles& counting. they come with a 40k warranty. I have so much tread left, I believe 60k is doable. I've had mine in shallow mud, snow & loose gravel on a grade and have had no traction issues with them. I have been stuck only 1x with them and it was not the tires fault... my main drive wheel had no traction so the other side never got any torque. slapped a tree truck under the spinning wheel & it poped right out.
