Default This may be paranoia..

This may just be me reading in to nothing but I love my Ram. I noticed the other day that when I'm driving and I slow down my temp. goes up to 3/4 of the thermometer sometimes... not all the time. Of course when I'm at speed it goes back down to 200 or the middle line. What do you guys think? Is it normal to have that much variation in temp. while driving? Thanks guys and gals!

well a few things you could do.....pour sum prestone flush down it and leave it in for a few days and flush the fluids out and put new in....sometimes they just need the air taken out of them if they have an air bubble in them....or u could just put in a 180 degree thermostat which is what i did and mine is fine. i am sure you know this but is your fluid level ok?

I've seen alot about that 180 degree thermostat other than changing the temp at which things run what sort of changes should I expect from it? Is an electric fan worth the money?

It's not normal for there to be that much variation in your temperature. When my truck reaches its steady state (about 190) it stays that way no matter the speed I am driving. Flush your coolant, change your T-stat, and if you have been in muddy or dusty conditions lately, use compressed air to clean your radiator (blow away from the engine compartment).

The 180 thermostat lets your engine run at a cooler temp range, this lower temp tricks the engine to running slightly more fuel so you will have a slight performance increase (probably not noticeable) andslightly worse fuel mileage (again, probably not noticeable). Overall though it will decrease spark knock/pinging...which is a very good thing.

that temp going up and down like that is usually a sign ofa malfunctioning clutch on your mechanical fan...
