Cannot pull eng code from my truck what am i doing wrong?
my eng light came on about a couple of weeks ago so i disconnected the battery and reset it, i couldnt find anything out of the ordinary wrong, so today it came back on for the sec time, i cant get the code from the odometer, i tried both ways on, off ,on, off,and back to on again, andi tried holding the trip button but i guess i read that only checks the gauges? i also flipped out and tried it several different ways on off on off on off on off on off on off@#(*#$ you get the idea, lolam i doing something wrong ? just worries me because this is the first time it ever came on since i had this truck and it seems to run perfectly with no problems, or do i have to go and get it hooked up to a scanner at the shop??thank you ,and my gas cap is on and good

it should work... on off etc with the 3rd on staying on... you need to do it slow enough though if its too fast it wont work either... on (1 sec) off (1 sec) etc...
thanks steve,i went to autozone i found out they scan it for free, the code was a ....EVAP small leak/no flow condition, they listed the possible causes 1. LOOSE OR DEFECTIVE gas cap, i had a new one( locking)from the dodge dealer less than a year ago when someone stole my gas, i bought another onewhile i was there at autozoneanyways, hope its that simple! 2.EVAP canister or hose cracked/not connected 3.Purge or Vent solenoid defective 4.Vacuum leak at engine,, is there a common problem in this area of the evap system with these trucks,?? so i put the new cap on and i'll go from there, andSTEVE how much for those shocks? will they fit my truck?
cool, glad to hear you got the codes out... nope shocks wont work, they're good for up to 2"~2.25" of lift at the most, otherwise I'd be using them. I do recommend them and the bilsteins...
can you explain what it means by codeP 1687= no messages recieved from the mechanical instrument cluster panel?? is that when i did the cluster test by holding down the trip button?
