I have a '97 ram 1500 5.2. the factory 136 amp alt. went out. I was wanting to know if a 90 amp alt. would work without any problems? thanks

 

do u have a big sterieo?, driving lights?, traler you haull lots with a charge hookup? if no then 90 will work fine if you plan on adding stuff then go bigger or youll regret it, 90 amp is fine for stock thow

 

Y would you want to go smaller? Best thing to do, bight the bullet, spend a little more for a new 136 amp w/ a lifetime warrenty. Then you have the bigger altinater and if it nrakes you get a new one free. thats what i have done w/ every vehicle i owned. just my 2 cents tho.

 

I have a 90 amp sitting in my garage. Just wanted to use it until I can afford the bigger one. Thanks for the replies!

 

welcome to DF... I was under the impression that the 135 amp alt was the upgrade from the Grand Cherokee's... I wouldnt go backwards.
