RPM Gauge Does'nt Work When Hot.
I have a 2000 Ram 1500 and my RPM gauge does not work whenever the weather is hot outside. In the mornings and at night it usually works fine (but not always). During the day, especially when hot outside it shuts off. When the RPM gauge does'nt work the engine seems to run rougher. All other gauges work fine and this doesnt happen when the engine temp is hot, just the outside air temp. I have a friend who works at a Dodge dealership in the service dept. and he has no clue. Whenever he checks it, its working. This is my first time on the forum and did a search and found nothing on this topic. Sorry if its been covered before. Thanks
hmm wired lol...so the tach dosent work then the outside temp is hot... i have no clue lol. is it constant in that iw will most always work when cool and mostley not work when hot or is it just a quincidance that it seams to be outside temp affected cuz i cant think of anything that would cause it to do that (and ive been sitting here for about 5 min with a puzzled look on my face lol)
Happened alsolast summer. Never had a problem lastfall and winter. Once the weather started warming up it started shutting off again. It almost always works at nights and when I start in mornings. Once it gets hot outside during the day it wont work. At night it usually works depending on temp outside. It may all be a coincidence but its been this way all this summer and last. And when the tach is off the truck seems to run a little rougher
welcome to DF. [sm=welcomesign.gif] Make sure that the wires for the guage are good. I dont really know why the air temp would affect the guage. Is it humid out (moisture in the air)? That might cause a bad wire to have problems...I'm really stretching tho... Trace the wire tho. make sure there are no breaks anywhere. Thtas the only thing i could think of. Im with ryan, im stumped. if you figure it out, post back.
