-All you need to remove is the valve covers, and disconnect the plug wires (so they can be moved out of the way). You will need to disconnect the items that connect to the valve covers too (PCV, air cleaner vent tube, and the various wire harnesses that use the valve cover bolts to hold them down).

-No, you do not need new valve covers with HS rockers.

-Thats about all you will need. I would also get a bottle of engine assembly lube, and some new valve cover gaskets. Also change your oil after you do the install.

Here is a good write-up on the rocker install.

Why new valve cover gaskets? The Magnum valve cover gasket is reinforced rubber, meant to be reused.

I just always like to do new gaskets whenever I remove something. Personal preference I guess.

Will rr's make that big of a difference on the 5.2L? There was an article going around a little while ago with guys pulling ~405hp from a 318 and they left the stock rockers in sighting the engine was better designed for short stroke, fast rpm, but I guess that could have been for a different application.

I thought they made a very nice difference on my 5.2. Do a search on my name, you can find the thread I talked more about them.

A cam will do wonders compared to 1.7 rr's ( cam had to play a large role in pulling 405hp ), but if you are running the stock cam 1.7's would be an improvement.

The 1.7 rr's are what's called the 'poor mans cam upgrade'. It will improve your performance but I am uncertain how much. While you are in the engine replacing the roller rockers, pull your push rods one at a time and check them for bends. I do this by rolling them on a piece of glass. If you see a bend, replace it. If you are re-using the push rods after checking it make sure you insert it back into the same lifter you pulled it from with the lifter end of the push rod back in the lifter and not turned upside down.

It's just a good time to check these and replace them if necessary. I found the NAPA was able to obtain replacements, but I didn't need them.
