Your in to pay a good chunk of change but if I were you, I would not take shortcuts. You said you don't like aamco but I'd at least try to find something like aamco that will offer you a 1-2 year warranty.
I've heard too many horror stories of people taking short cuts and ending up putting two or three transmission in a vehicle in a couple of years time.

some aamcos may be bad, but the one I went to gets top marks.
you best shop around.. when my tranny went..they wanted to refab it .. but i told them no and wanted a new one.. 1400 bux later.. got a new tranny, tq converter, and aux cooler, installed, with 3 year 30K warrenty... and i watched them take the new tranny and converter out of the crates and install it ... so i know i wasnt jipped
when the parents are making truck payments, They get to call the shots. Otherwise i would have taken the truck in may when it started slipping.
