Default Opinion on K1500 series trucks?

Well I have been working my 18 year old *** off as hard as I can and I want a good daily to drive while I work on my Indy but I want a truck, I want 4x4, I want a V8 and I want it to be a short bed(preferably not step side but don't mind step side) . I was looking at something cheap like this.

Any opinions? Suggestions? Slaps to the face for looking at Chevy?

oh boy did you hit me at the right time...

I'd recommend staying away from the chevy's/gmc at this point, they are a pita to troubleshoot. My sons truck wont idle, yank off the timing wire and it idles perfect, runs awesome. put it back the way it should be and it takes a crap. Map, TPS, o2, IAC all good, swapped the o2 & ignition module already and it still wont run.

I told Jr if he had a dodge, it would have been fixed already.

I owned a 92 k1500. traded it in with almost 190kmi. It was a good truck that was abused by the prev. owner. The valstem seals love to dry up and leak, the drum self adjusters dont work well at all, distributor shaft tends to loosen up and cause missing, and unless its been repainted peeling paint was an issue with mine and many others. Being an 88 it has the non electronic controlled tranny which seems to be stronger than the newer one that came accross in 95 or 96.Mine was a5-sp and got 13mpg on it. They have some issues like every car out there, but overall a good truck.

Hmmm mixed opinions, guess I need to see more posts. I just want a nice cruising truck/daily driver. The Indy is going to be full blown performance thats why.

i have a 88 gmc k1500, that truck got beaten, beaten and beaten some more. still running, has 210k miles on original motor all ive replaced on it in the last 50k miles was, water pump, fan clutch, one axle (36 inch super swampers on stock axles = bad axle), power steering pump (again 36 inch tires)and thats it. truck sat for 6 months went out last week and turned the key started right up. For a daily driver if you cant get a dodge ide go chevy/gmc. This truck has had the beating of a lifetime and just keeps running, how many people have broken their battery box off and cracked the battery in half? i have lol, train tracks at 45 = fun times lol didnt blow shocks either.
