The amp is bridged to only run the subs.

probably the reason why your head unit doesn't shut off the subs is becuase they probably have the sub rca preouts into the wrong preouts on the head unit. You can wire in a toggle switch for your amp very easily. Find the blue wire from you head unit that powers your amp, it will be labeled remote as stated above splice and connect to toggle switch. You don't have to worry about the light or such becuase it will still only turn on when the head unit is on no matter what

My personal opinion, ditch the subs altogether.
I don't mean to rant, but I'm a band director and am losing a little of my hearing doing my job. My band playson average90~100dB and it's affecting my hearing (some peak out at around 150dB http://www.coolmath.com/decibels1.htm).

I've heardcar stereosthatare well above the average output of my kids and I think that's just stupid.

You wouldn't eat garbage out of the trash, willingly sniff dog crap, throwsand in your eyes, or stick your finger in an outlet, but all the time Ihear people just assaulting their ears with car stereos. In my opinion the only reason for a subwoofer is to reproduce low tones (hertz, notvolume) that the normal small speakers can't reproduce. Most music doesn't even muddle down in this range except for rap that does it just to shake your *****, rather than add significant musical impact.

Ultimately, you can do whatever you want, this is just the opinion of somebody that needs their hearing to do their job and knows what it's like to lose a little ofit.

/End of rant/
This statement is full of bad info.....please teach yourself a little about musical reproduction before you go spewing bad info to ppl.

As for the original ?....as everyone else said jst put a switch on your turn on lead.

as far as you draining your battery .. you shouldnt have to worry about it.. all your doing is interupting the already automated 12V switched signal wire coming from your deck to begin with.. the truck is off the subs/amps are off anyway... your just controlling them while they are on.

and as far as loosing your hearing.. try being a fighter jet mechanic for 4 and 1/2 years..(and7 mo. in the dirt... incoming every other hour ) wanna talk about loosing some hearing.. ontop of that.. the lovley constant ringing (tinnitus) i experience.. just one of the many items on my "screwed up list" from serving my country

wanna talk about a comedy act.. get me and my 92 yr old great grandfather in the same room trying to have a conversation...

This thread can be dropped now. I went out and started checking all the wiring and just like spaz_22 said the sub RCA preouts were connected to full range speaker instead of sub. I can now shut them off using the H/U plus the sound seems to be better. Thanks anyway guys even though I'm a dumbass.

But what really suck it that I already drilled and installed the toggle switch. I guess I'll just leave it there for now and tell people it turns on the super flux capacitor. But in the meantime I'll be thinking of something else to put in my truck to wire it up to. Maybe some blue neon tubes.

Here! Here! I spent 15 years in the car audio trenches and still have better hearing than I should!

Rap music uses higher bass frequencies, so it is not the "shake your *****" kinda bass. It travels well, that is why you hear it!

Classical music has more varied and deeper sounds than most rock music has as well, organ music in particular.

The sounds that damage hearing the worst are higher frequencies and decibels in excess of 120 db. 140 db is the threshold of pain and I have exceeded that many times. Yeah, it Hertz! LOL!

If you feel that your son's band is damaging your hearing, squishy ear plugs are 5 pair for $1 at most stores!
