98 5.9 - idles then dies - restarts and runs
Yep, I did reset the pcm like you suggested, results were the same, thanks for the procedure though. I'll try to clean the 02 sensor and see what happens. Nope, no codes or check engine light. The truck has an AEM intake that was on when I bought it, although I have the stock intake which does not help. It very well may be that some air noise is coming from the IAC, but when the idle drops the volume of air being sucked in through that big tube is all you can hear.
Yep, you guys called it, I replaced the pre-cat 02 sensor and it now idlesfine. I cleaned the sensor and checked the voltage coming fromit afterthe truckgot to temperature, it was variable and close to the normal range, but not close enough I guess. Thanks for the help.
I have a 99 1500 5.9L. It does the same thing gtraptor said his was. But my does it it closed loop as well if I let it idle long enough. Park and in gear... map sensor voltage goes up passed 4V. Iac open all the way. Idle like with a big cam and severely lean. its does it for the last 9 months. I have a brand new engine with new O2 sensors and it still does it. Getting worse everyday.
I need to get it fixed ASAP With out throwing parts at it

Same issue for a long time - Fire the truck up, run down the road about 100 yards, gasping/coughing starts (truck, not me), won't make it up a hill at all. Shut engine off, restart, then drive to wherever for however long without an issue. The only code that ever showed up was the 0455 Evap leak.
I replaced a lot of stuff (IAC, TPS, Crank senor, plenum pan). Cleaned out the throttle body. Nothing worked. Figured I'd go after the Evap code stuff (new hoses, purge pump, gas cap and filler tube.
Saw this post, went to Advance Auto for the front O2 sensor, slapped it in and for the 1st time in a long while the truck didn't stall. I did have to splice the old wires onto the new sensor since the new one was too short and the connector was slightly too large but hey, it works.
Just wanted to say thanks and share my miserable experience with anyone else that may benefit from it.
