Default O2 sensor question

Just failed smog for excessive HC so Im replacing the usual cap rotor plugs wires but wanted to do the O2 sensors. Seems like there are two, one before and after the CAT. My question is, are they both the same? On ebay you can get an upstream sensor for only $22.50 shipped, so can I just get two and put one of these on the downstream sensor as well?

Thanks.

No, they are not the same. Seems like they should have both O2's up & dwn.

If not go to www.oxygensensors.com

Default RE: O2 sensor question

If you do replace the O2 sensors
the NTK sensors were OEM on most 2nd Gen Rams
and they seem to work better than Bosch or other O2 sensors.

Usually high HC means that you have a misfire on one cylinder
or your catalytic converter has become 'poisoned' or perhaps
has broken apart.

Check with the dealership to see if your truck is eligible for a free catalytic converter under the terms of the big recall for 1996-2001 Rams:
