Default Will this really help?

Today I ordered a Skyjacker Heavy Duty Steering Stabilizer from Summit. $55 bucks, anyway my question is, will this stop all the shaking in my steering wheel? When I'm driving at about 35-55mph I get a really crazy shake in the wheel. I know what your thinking, "get your tires balanced" well I tried yesterday at Pep Boys and Discount Tire, nobody will touch them, they say that they're machines will only hold a 35" not a 37" I aso had an alignment 4 months ago.

On another note, I also changed my oil yesterday and after reading the post about knocking I thought I would try the Pro Plus filter and trash my Fram, I'm glad I did, the cold start knocking is almost gone, FRAM IS TRASH!

The stabilizer will help. Like you said though, the problem is with the tires not the stabilization. Find a shop that will balance them, they are around. Some Semi tire shops will balance larger tires like that, but I know some regular shops carry balancers that are designed for tires that go that large. Another thought I had as I looked at your sig, depending on what Swampers you have, sometimes they are a real bear to get balanced.

Regarding the filter, I have never liked Fram either. Wix is the brand I prefer. I will however say that some of Frams filters are now featuring an anti drain-back valve like Wix and others use. Those might be a little higher quality, I don't know.

Stabalizer will help but how much is unknown. It might be a night and day difference or you might not be able to tell. Stabalizers really just cover up more severe problems. I would find somebody to balance the tires.

Also it could be death wobble. With a stock steering setup its probably from worn TREs or ball joints. Ball Joints actually cause death wobble really bad. I would get your ball joints and TREs checked or just check them yourself.

I had a whole new front end put on it the same time I had the alignment. TREs, Ball joints, etc.

Yeah, death wobble isn't a steering shimmy.. its a violent wobble. That and it typically doesn't go away as speed increases, only as you slow way down and let the vibration stop.

It sounds like a tire balancing issue, like I said, check around I bet you can find someone to balance them. Especially if you don't mind weights on the outside and inside of the wheel... you'll probably need to do that with Interco tires.

Not nessasarly, my buddys XJ on 38s had death wobble from 25-35mph, if he could accelerate through that speed he didn't have it. And it was BAD death wobble, the worst I've ever seen.

And I highly doubt it will matter bribo. Just out of curriosity do you know what brand of ball joints you got? Some of the economy ones can wear out in a week with big offset tires.

Right now I'm poor! I will get the duals when I get some xtra cash..

Socha, I have no idea what kind are on there, when I bought the truck it needed a whole new front end, so I had the dealership replace everything, they did it for free I might add! Lawsuit threats work wonders when your "new" used truck F**** up after it supposedly had a 100 point inspection.

I got the steering stabilizer today, WOW less than 24hr delivery! That’s the ONLY benefit to living in Ohio, Summit has a warehouse here! Anyway, I installed it and a few of the pieces did not fit, one of the bolts were to long and the mounting bracket on the truck is to narrow, anyway I used my existing hardware on a couple of spots and made it work, I cut about 1/16th off the rubber spacers. I called Summit and Skyjacker and they both said that it should be just fine, but what do you guys think? Remember I ordered the HD, not remembering that my truck is not a HD.

Here
I hope I installed it right!!!

Update; After I installed the stabilizer today I went to another tire shop right up the street from me, I again asked if they would balance my tires. The jerk off behind the counter says "well I dunno, what size are they" 37" I replied. He said he needed to see them, so we walk out to the truck and he says, "well, theres no reason for you to get them balanced and even if I did, you're still going to have a shake" WTF??!!! All I want is my tires balanced, why do these ******** have to question me? It's my truck and if I wanted to balance my tires everyday for two months, I can!! Just do the work and stop asking questions!

So, I still dont have them balanced!
