Default It happened on the way to the Nats

[:'(]About ten years ago when I got back into Mopars I was living in Vancouver and dreamed of going to the Mopar Nationals in Colubus, OH. I moved to Ontario a few years ago and then discovered a buddy from Vancouver now lives just South of Columbus. What could be better than going to the Nats and seeing an old bud at the same time. We made plans in last spring and I started speeding up the complete my truck to I could enter it. I was counting the days. On the way through Toronto I got rear ended on the 401. OUCH! No one was hurt but, what do you do and the little old gal in the Toyota was very upset as well. I felt bad for her. I felt even worse for my truck. Oh Well sh_t happens. The cops said there was under $1,000.00 so there was no need for a report. I went to the Nats all the same and had a great time. I got the estimate to replace the rear fender today $3,5000.00. Goes to show you what cops know about body repairs.

Thats BS, I'd call the police and tell them what happened. Take it to court.

Thanks guys. I think that cops (police officers) should stick to police things and not auto body repairs. I got a estimate from a Mopar dealership yesterday of $3,500.00 plus the strips & decal. I think the problem is that the police want to pass the buck with the policy and being sugestive in their "opinios": To bring you up to date. The lady that rear ended me call yesterday as well. She is very very nice and feels bad about the whole thing.

She told me that she went to the OPP station in Whitbey and an officer can out and looked at her car and was a bit anoyed that she was bothing him about it. He said it was under $1,000.00 and thank you for dropping by. There was not report filled out or number issued. She's taking it to the dealer today to see what they say. I'll let you know.

I can understand where the police are coming from. If they had to fill out a report for every scatch and ding they would never make it to the donut shop at all. But, which brain surgen came up with the $1,000.00 damage figure? By the way. Now I have to get a police report because the damage is over $1,000.00. I call the OPP yesterday to tell them this. I was told that I could be charged for not reporting an accedent where the damage is over $1,000.00.........WTF!

Yeah welcome to Ontario and ourbs confusing ways of treating accidents. Let me try to clear things up for you if I can

You must phone 911 if there is an injury involved in an accident, over 1000 combined damage (unless its a POS its going to be over) or if you suspect drunk (drugged) driver.
Under $1000 combined damage you MUST go to the nearestCollision Reporting Center within 24hrs.

The CRC's are setup by the insurance industry in various locations throughout theprovinceand are manned by OPP and local police. Problem is as you mentioned cops dont have a clue on repair costs and will low ball it to pass the buck. Last accident I call 911 combined damage to both vehicles was over 8000 yet we were told to go to the CRC. Ive never called 911 since then (many years ago)

Any accident make sure you get all the vital details and then go to the CRC (unless an injury) The link below has a form you can print out and keep in your vehicle to help you if you ever need it in the future.

Thanks! That is great info. I noticed that Ottawa does not have a centre and most centers are in the East end of Ontario. I guess they have more accedents....LOL. Also you mentioned "combined" damage og $1,000.00. That changes everything. It sure would not take much combined damage to add upto a G note. I think it is unfair to the motorest and the police to be made to make that judgement. That for the pro's.

I also noticed that the inspection centers are a "private comnpany" like the "Imported Vehical Registry". Not to get off topic but, Here is the government bailing on it services (responsability) to Joe public at a cost & poor service. "THE IMATES ARE RUNNING THE ASYLEM!"
