hello i am new to this site and have a 97 1500 4x4 . i was wondering how to tell if the evaporator coil is bad . any help would be great thanks.

 

What is your A/C doing/not doing??

 

has a bad leak . put dye in it and it shows no leaks under the hood on any of the hoses ar on the condinser or on the compresser.

 

Sounds like the evap. then.

I haven't had to mess with mine yet so I don't know how to trace a leak in there down. Maybe WayneC can chime in here. He seems to know A/C.

If you have access to a black light shine it around the evap drain and look for the dye?
Does the A/C smell musty when you first turn on the fan. Evaps are pretty common on 2nd gen rams.

 

Also with the black light, pull the blower motor out to gain partial acces to the evap. You may have to take it to a shop though that has a halogen "sniffer" to find the leak.
