Rear Shocks 4 01 Ram??
I want to replace my two rear shocks for my 2001 Ram. They both have gone bad and have loose bushings, so they make a lot of loud noise when I hit bumps. Anyway, I would prefer to have a gas shock in the color BLACK. Can any of you guys suggest a good brand that would offer this. Also, this truck has a projected 2-3" lift, it's all the Off-Road edition, so I am not really sure what the deal is on the total height, all I know is that it fits 35" tires like its nothing. Let me know what you guys think will fit for my application because I'd like to order some!
if money is no object bilstein is the best and can be had for 210-220-230 (per 4) or so on ebay. rancho are popular also. i put on gabriel from autozone about 120 (per 4). as for color, they come is all kinds of bright colors - just cut the straps and hang them up and let them extend and spray paint them black.
edit. torque them to spec or they will rattle, especially the lower front, torques to 100#, which is a lot. do some seaching here for install tips on front.

whew - i just bought bilsteins for $229 shipped to me on ebay. not sure how much fun the front shocks will be to put on but i'm not anxious to spend $200 to have someone else just put shocks on for me.
i looked at the gabriels and monroes and they're fine - but i wanted something less common, more upscale. i looked at the kyb monoshock and it talked too much of offroad. while i have a 4x4 it rarely sees the offroad so i didn't want a harsher ride on the highway - so i went bilstein.
thanks for the praise of the shock!

not hard at all to put on, although a breaker bar (ok) or an impact wrench (better) eases the strain. the trick is to lift the body, not the frame, to extend the shock and relieve the pressure from the front towers. then torque the crap out of the lower fronts. 100 lbs. for the rear, just drop the spare and move it out of the way to get to the top bolts.
Just bought a complete set of 4 Bilstein Heavy Duty shocks from Summit Racing for $61.95 each. For $247.80 compared to $230 on e-bay I'll gladly pay the difference to get the backing of Summit racing if there is a problem. Very cheap insurance. Also $10.95 Handling fee at Summit was probably cheaper than the shipping cost from the e-bay seller.
