Default 3rd gen rims on a 97 4x4

I just got offered free 17" steel wheels from an '03 (not sure about 2x4 or 4x4) for free. I need to know before I waste the tripout there if they will work on my 97 4x4. the tires are the same overall height/width (checked w/ a converter), but i am worried about backspacing/ offset and lug pattern. Going to go tonight if I can get a reply.... Thanks!

im sure the tires will fit. as far as the lug pattern, they are the same. i think that the lug diameter is different so you will need the lugs from the 3rd gen. hell, if they are free, and they dont fit (but i think they do) sell them.
