97 Ram fuel injector replacement woes
Hello y'all. I'm new on this forum. I have a 97 Ram 4x4, 318 auto, air max intake, high flow intake manifold, 4.10 gears, new tranny (times 3), cat back and dualie exhaust spinning 31" BFG's. My baby has 114K miles on her and is starting to show some gray on the temples if ya know what I mean...
I have had perpetual problems with the #2 cylinder overheating and cooking the spark plug, usually in 5000-8000 miles. Yesterday I pulled off the fuel injector rail and fuel injectors. There was a lot of gunk in the manifold. I cleaned it out and checked it. It is a composite construction so the manifold can't rust on the inside. I've heard that may be the source of rust but I've got the newer manifold that won't rust. I then put in the new injectors and reconnected it all.
I also put in new spark plugs while I was at it. The problem came when I went to start it. It didn't start. [:@] I checked the plugs. The are getting spark. I pulled a plug and checked that it was getting fuel. In fact it had been flooded out from cranking it over. I pulled the injector rail off and put the old fuel injectors back in thinking maybe they gave me the wrong injectors. No joy.
Anyone have any suggestions as to why the truck won't start now? It's getting fuel and ignition, and started before I began this project. I'm at a loss on this one. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

At first it sounds like its running rich in the cnylider, could be from the injector stocking open. You said there was gunk in there, the gunk can get in the injector easy itself.
That is why I replaced the injectors. the problem now is that the truck won't start at all. Once I get it running, I'll see if I continue to accumulate gunk in the injectors. If they get fouled again, then I'll look at getting into the gas tank to replace the filter and check the tank itself to make sure it isn't rusting. Any suggestion as to why it won't start now? I just did a straight replacement of the injectors and the spark plugs.
