Default RE: DEATH WOBBLE?

Glad to see this post, I was getting ready to ask what the hell was wrong with my truck. '00 ext cab 1500 4x4, I get that wobble when I hit a pothole or go over RR tracks with any speed at all. I also get the shakes bad when I put on the front brakes, but only if I get into the brakes fairly hard. If I ease into them, no shakes.

It's also worse since I put a new set of wheels & tires on - 285's, had 265's on factory rims before. The rear tires are new, the fronts are going to need replaced before long.

Safe to assume I'm going to need some combination ofcontrol arm bushings, tie rod ends, ball joints and pittman arm ? Thanks

I hear all the time that people have been told that their pitman arm is "bad". This is pretty much impossible! The only way it could be bad is if it cracked or is bent, which is very hard to do.

But yet have your ball joints, TREs, and tires balanced first. If its still there check into control arm bushings.

I wondered the same thing - the Pittman arm is a solid piece of steel that's geared. Well, that's one less thing I'll probably have to spend $$$$$ on. Thanks.

i know EXACTLY what your problem is.. had an 05 dakota in the shop today.. with the exact same symptoms.. hit a pot hole.. thought i was gonna fall out of the truck... i turned the brakes.. new pads.. new tires.. all of that... didnt cure it.. tires made it worse... jack up the BACK of the truck... look at both tires from behind with them off the ground.. i would be willing to bet money that one is lower than the other... or they are both too low... lift up on the tire that is hanging the lowest.. it will move up and down easily.. the other side wont... replace the shocks.. not just the bad one.. both...

I already replaced the shocks with the heaviest duty Gabriels they make, also replaced the steering stabilizer. I was sure it was the shocks, the right front would bottom out when I hit a train track too fast - it still does it.

You'll feel death wobble in the steering wheel...its the front tires moving back and farth really fast. They move back and forth because of play in the list parts above.

When you hit a hole and it starts does it continue bad until you slowdown/stop or does it just do it real quick and go away?

A good case of death wobble usually takes a full stop to get the wobble to stop.

In my truck, it just does it momentarily and then goes away. But you can actually hear the wobble too. I'm gonna take it to a suspension shop and have them tell me what needs replaced - I usually do my own work.

come on guys. This has been gone over and over again. The best solution is to get the bracket from www.solidsteel.ca . This is a bracket that replaces the balljoint trackbar with the 2003 dodge trackbar plus this bracket. I had the deathwobble also. This fixed the problem and also it stops the kick steer when you hit a pot hole.

Bump steer is caused by the dranglink being at an angle steeper then the tie rod, not so much the trac bar.
