1996 5.9L idle problem
Thanks for all your replies. The solution to the problem was to clean the throttle body. A neighbor who is a retired Ford mechanic said that there were several things that could cause poor idle and suggested I go to the Dodge dealer for a diagnosis. I went and the service manager said that it was not uncommon for my problem to be caused by a dirty throttle body and sold me a can of cleaner. I used the cleaner and the problem was solved.
I appreciate y'alls information and help.

i am having the same problem with my truck but i already cleaned the iac and the throttle body and it is still running really rough and will not idle i have to be on the brake and throttle at the same time when coming to a stop or the truck will die any other ideas?
My 408 stroker idle will bounce around and almost quit only when driving as I slow down, it irattic at best and does not happen all of the time, I've replaced the IAC, MAP, TPS, with no luck, I've also replaced the plug wires, cap and rotor, has anyone ever experienced this before?
My newly purchased '96 1500 Ram with the 5.9 L engine, 65,600 miles has an idle problem. The engine RPM drops and the engine dies when I come to a stop. Had a shop (not Dodge) scope the engine and they said misfire in cylinder #3. I realize that the problem could be distributor cap, plug wire or spark plug. I changed the plugs - no help. Since the distributor is set under the fire wall I was wondering about the best way to change the cap or wires. What are the best parts to use? Also, which is the best shop manual to buy?
and hopefully got his issue resolved. Someone brought this thread back to life recently
Would be nice to have had the resolution posted (if it was found).
Would be nice if they'd acknowledged that fact when posting.
