Default TRANSMISSION

When I use my cruise my rpms jump intermintantly. It does it quickly, its not slipping. It doesn't do it with the cruise off. When the truck is cold it does it a little bit with the cruise off. It's almost like it wants to down shift but it doesn't. it,s been doing it for about a year. I don't know if it's serious or not but it's starting to bug me.

My 01 did that only when I was in Overdrive for about 6 months after I purchased it new and I had to have the dealer re-program the computer. Finally the issue was resolved. Not sure if that's what you're encountering but it sounds very similar.

Hello Armark, it sounds like there may be a seal that is going out. I have been told that dodge had some problems with the OEM seals in there transmissions up to about 2001. I had this happen on my '01 ram and now my truck is in the shop having the transmission rebuilt. It would not hurt to have it looked at and maybe catch it before it does more damage like I did with mine. Still waiting on the final bill on how much.

I bought the trucklate in 2002 and the transmission did go at 65000 miles. I bought the extended warranty and only had to pay the $200 deductable. I have put 40000 miles on it since and love the truck except for this little problem. When it was rebuilt it was $3100.00 so I was told. I'm sure it was adjusted upwards because it was a warranty thing.

Sound a lot like what mine was doing when I bought it. Changed the throttle position sensor and that cured it.

Not sure what year your truck is but if you go to the topic free repair info and get into the tsb's for your truck there is one (i looked at 01 cause thats what i have) that says what to do with that problem. I tried linking it for ya but it required the password. It has to do with reprogramming the trucks computer.

TPS sensor. Mine was doing the exact same thing about ayear ago. Replaced it and no more rpm jumping. FYI: TPS=Throttle Positioning Sensor
