Default Flex Fans

Anyone try flex-fans over the electric or the stocker fan and clutch?

Default RE: Flex Fans

Going off past experience here. I had a flex fan. Great thing about it, very light. Didn't hinder my water pump at all. It was all aluminium and so was the spacer, needed the spacer to keep the blades away from the belt. 2 bad things about those fans, 1 the are noisy.... not good noisy either, more like a constant whine. Think of this, ever heard one of those high powered box fans? They whine a lot at high speeds. Now think of that noise and intensify it. Then imagine that noise while your driving everywhere!
2nd thing. because they are always rotating, and you really can't buy a clutch for these; they will take some horsepower from your engine. Not as much as a clutch fan, but enough.

Another thing I didn't mention... plus or minus... the air draw. These fans can pull a great amount of air at certin RPM. Depending on the amount of blades and the material its made out of. I had mentioned aluminium earlier because this is the most popular fan bought. I had the 5 blade aluminium one, which pulled a lot of air around 2000 RPM and more, up till about 5500 when it didn't matter because I was going really fast. If your stuck in traffic... then you get to watch your temp guage raise a bit. This seems to be an issue with the fan at that point. The draw isn't as great so the fan isn't really doing anything but spinning and puching hot air against your engine.

So In my Opinion, would I buy one, Yes if your looking for a great stock replacment that won't kill your water pump, No if your looking for a fan that will draw more air than stock.
