Help finding a good WINTER TIRE??
Right now I run 35/12.5/17 Dunlop Radial Mud Rovers on my 01 Ram 1500. I'm looking for something in that size that is going to kick *** in the snow and on ice while offering a nice smooth ride. Can of you guys help me pick out a good snow tire for my truck that will do great in snow and on ICE??
no there great, but driving on the roads with snow and ice aren't really their specialty, I want to make sure I have some great for that considering this truck is so tall and top heavy, the last thing I want is to be the guy floating around on the roads while the little cars are doing better than me. I am going to run the mud rovers during the summer-fall though, just so i cant split the miles up on them and the winter tires.
What do you want to do better in? The tires you have now will kick *** in the snow. If you wanna do good on the ice though you probably don't want a tire that's a foot wide. BFG all-terrains are probably a sure bet.
get a spare set of stock rims, mount some BFG A/Ts in the stock tire size, u will do alot better then a foot wide tire. all the guys over in my town due that, they do alot better in the snow/ice
I cant compare them to many, but my nokian vativas were ALOT better than my dayton timberline A/T's in the winter.

general rule of thumb...idealwinter/snow/ice tire is a skinny ... like said above.. wider the tire... less snow/ice traction you can get... more wieght spread out across the tread .. less bite
285/70r17 or a 275/70r17 or 265/70r17 bridgestone dueler AT REVO's. the 285 will be about a 32.7/11.5/17 tire so you'll be going down a 2 inches or so, but it'll lower you center of gravity some...probably not very noticable just an added bonus, and they are and inch narrower(sp?)...also they are sipped from the factory, and they do very well in the snow and ice, and ride better the oem tires
Thanks everyone for your help! I will go with the BFG's All Terrains for the sure bet. I just don't want to go too small because there is a 3" lift on the truck, and dodges have those huge fender spaces, so it might look dumb with tires too skinny, but I'll go way lower than 35/12.5's!
