Mystery Solved...Or Is It??
I just got my 98 Ram 1500 4x4 back from the shop. A little background. When I got it in June it had a brand new battery installed. About two weeks later, the battery was dead. They checked the alternator, etc. and determined it was a bad battery and replaced it.
About 3 weeks later the battery was dead. They they decided it had to be the alternator, so they gave me credit for the new battery and replaced the alternator.
About 3 weeks after the new alternator...the battery was dead. (can you see a theme here?). Now they were challenged. Why is the battery dying? New battery, new alternator, all the cables, etc. are fine...so what's going on.
Sometimes the littlest things cause the biggest problems. They found that the light in the glove box was not going out when the lid was closed!! So 24/7 for three weeks the light has been on, draining the life out of the battery as it sat in my garage, with the battery only getting a charge when I drove it on the weekends. They told me the light was so hot that they had to wrap it in a rag to pull the part. It appears that the switch was bad.
Let's hope that this is the end of the Mystery...

Interesting. It's always the little ****, although they could have simply disconnected the battery and waited a few for the bulb to cool on its own.
