air cleaner vs gas mileage
I've been reading a lot of the posts about the round air cleaners. I see where there was question about how it affects gas mileage and was wondering if anyone had an answer. I apologize if it was already posted and I missed it.
It was...and, you did.hahahaha Just kidding.
Not so much of a fuel savings item. If you drive like a human being, you might pick up a mile/gal or so. It's a breathing issue though and if you have an ample exhaust...well, easy in/easy out. It makes the engine a little peppier. Problem is with that pep and underhood 1960's hollow moan, it's hard to keep your foot from kicking it in the...well there goes the gas mileage.

yea, thats why when people sometimes refer to fuel mixture as too rich( meaning more fuel than air) or too lean ( meaning more air than fuel) when you bolt on this set up you get a lean mixture, and theres nothing wrong with it, it saves alot of gas
It is a crying shame that American High Schools
don't have shop classes where gasoline engines are on dyno's
and students can learn 'hands on' how engines work
..both for producing power, torque and how they consume fuel.
It is common for German and Austrian secondary schools to have engine shops with dynos.
Go look at yourself in a mirror and ask this question:
"Do I understand how partially closed throttle blades affect an engine's operation? "
During World War II the USA trainned more than 300,000 men to be either pilots or flight engineers on gasoline engined aircraft.
In several of the most important conflicts:
The Doolittle Raid on Tokyo
Midway
The ambush and killing of Admiral Yammamoto
The Mustang's long range escort of bombers to Berlin
it was not maximum horsepower
but knowledge of how to get maximum fuel economy at part throttle engine operation that won the battle.
If you are not personally willing to learn how throttle blades affect engines,
somewhere...not too far away...there is probably an old guy in a nursing home who would tell you about it. These guys learned it first from an army manual...then learned it again 'real time' watching gauges while wondering if they would live another hour

Well if I was in an airplane I'm sure it would be alot more pressing issue for me...
When my gas guage gets low I go to Amocco.
Would be nice to have had an engine class in high school. I think I would have actually went to that one
