Default shifting problem?

Well it may be another tranny failing guys....i have a 2000 4x4 46re that is acting funny. When it first starts up and is cold i drive it and from first to second is ok but from second to third it dont want to go into third until about 3200 rpms and sometimes stays there until ilet off the gas and then it shifts...and only sometimes do i have this problem, when i go to take off from a stop it will take off normal then shift intointl a lower gear for a second then back again. I just changed filter and fluid probably 7000 miles or so back.Is there any small things i can check first like maybe i read a post about silenoids in the pan or anything else i could check before i consider it needing rebuilt.....if i have it rebuilt i want it done right where i wont have to do it again so who do you guys suggest have it done.I wont have the dealer do it because they will just do stock again.I want one that will last the truck life! lol....so if anybody has any input on what to try first let me know! thanx in advance guys!

if your gonna spend the money to have it rebuilt, just buy one from the fast man. You wont be doin anything to the tranny after that.

speaking very generally - intermittently not shifting correctly when cold could be caused by a problem in the valve body (a shift valve sticking ?) and it's possible the 2nd problem could be caused by something similar. Usually if you have an internal trans problem with a clutch pack it will cause slipping and if you have a planetary gear problem it will cause noise (whining). I don't really believe in trans additives but it might be worth a try (short of dis-assembling the valve body and cleaning it). Was your pan clean when you changed your fluid ?
