Default 2001 Dodge Ram upgrades!?

[hr]
Hey I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L in it, im in the military and currently over seas... Within the last week or so i have purchased many items that i believe will 1) increase power and 2) MPG's... Here is the list of items that i have recently purchased... Jet performance Chip stage 2, Flowmaster 40 series w/ dual exhaust, K&N Cold Air intake, and a Jet Performance throttle body spacer.... I would like to know if any one has any good ideas for more easy upgrades... Also im looking in to headers and would like to know whats a good "bang for the buck" brand, so far the edelbrock shorty headers are in the lead for me..... Any help would be appreciated!

Edelbrock is probably better quality. But if you want the best bang for your buck, Check out the pacesetter long tubes

I think mopowar told me that their not illegal (depending on state) it's just that they can play heck with thecat placement to avoid a CEL. You might have to run an O2 simm as well.

I didn't think they were illigal as long as you have the rest of the exhaust hooked up to them (cat, mufflers, tail pipe, etc.)

I mean I've seen some offroad only vehicles that just run long tubes and have them exit underneath the front tires, and as cool as it is, you probably lose a little performace, and you can't have people driving down the raod spitting fire on the car next to you.

Can anybody tell me if the Gibson Ceramic Coated headers are really worth the extra $350 over the Edelbrocks, and if so, what's the difference?

That is correct. It depends on the laws in your state. In Va, as long as you have a cat installed and no check engine light you are good.

I think the main reason I have to run a simm is because of the cat itself, not neccessarily the placement. It has a hole down the center and the holes in the metallic honeycomb are much larger than I've seen on any cat before. Looking at the design, I would say it does very little or nothing in the way of emissions.
