This sucks
Well I bought my truck back in june and I'm just loving it. I'm in the middle of doing mods and got plans down the road to rebuild the motor and all sorts of stuff but I just got some somewhat bad news today. I'm in the Air Force and just got order's to japan today. So ya'll know what that means right? I cannot take my truck with me. In a couple of months I'm going to have to drop my truck off at my parents place and leave it stateside for like 2-3 years. It kind of hurts because I love my truck so much and got plans with it that'll have to be deplayed for so long. Hell, I'll have the truck payed off by the time I get back and can drive it again. I knew this would happen too when I bought the truck. Oh well...at least when I get back I'll have enough money saved up to go all out on my truck.
Man, that definitely sucks. I can't imagine being taken away from all of the things that I love for a couple of years. Look on the bright side though, when you get back you can turn your truck into a beast with all of the money you can save up in a couple of years. Good luck with everything.
That's exactly what I'm going to do when I get back. Except for adding a few cheap things to my truck before I leave, everything big I plan on doing to it will happen when I get back. And driving my truck after like 2-3 years will be something new because the only vehicals they have over there are the tiny little pos asian cars.
If you're going to be over there for 3 years you should look into having it shipped over there. I mean it wouldnt be worth it for only a few months, but years? I wouldn't want to go that long without it.
Just don't blow all your money on sushi, shark fin soup, octopus, eel, chihuahua or whatever the heck else they eat over there for like $800.00 a plate and you should have mad cash when you get back.
At least Japan will be an easier tour, unless Godzilla attacks.

There's more to it than that, I hate to say it but you'd be better off selling it asap and buying another after you get back, vehicles deteriorate when sitting for long periods of time, unless you can keep it in a garage...
There's a slew of stuff you'll need to do to it before you leave, things like draining the oil and really most of the fluids and d/c'ing the battery and then there's a bunch of stuff when you get back, you really need to find articles on how and what to do about vehicles that are to be sitting that long, and someone will have to move the truck every so often or leave it sitting on blocks or you'll flat spot the tires something awful...
It is a process, you'll be spending several hours or more prepping it before you leave, and after you return.
And still it might not be ok, unless you really know what you're doing and even then you take your chances.
Not trying to scare you, but if you just park it and leave it sit for 3 years you will not have the truck you have now, not even close.
