Default tried the shortened belt lol

I routed it, checked it, double checked it, triple checked it, and cranked it over, checked to see if it slipped at all...all good, so I started up the truck. It squeeked as it was getting to speed in the first second or so, but after that it was tight and alright. I checked to make sure the waterpump was spinning properly, and that the temp didnt rise. After that was all clear I went for a drive down the boulevard. Oh man was the steering tight as hell, lol. I cranked it up and noticed the pull from 4-5 went a little smoother, seemed to jump a little faster. How much faster, not much, but Im sure Ill find out at the track come the 28th.Either way, cool temp. mod. and Id recomend doing it, for anybody who wants to go straight in a hurry.

crap....I forgot to take a pic of the routing for you guys. Ill just make a diagram.

oh yea, if you wanted to know what size to go with I have a 55" 7 rib. I think if I were to buy another one Id try to track down a 54" belt, to see if it wouldnt slip on startup. I couldnt find a 54" but it may be worth it in the long run(as far as longevity of the belt is concerned).

Yup, nice racing mod, just so you guys know this is not for street use, the lack of power steering will hurt the components over time, but it's a dandy for drag racing.

I wonder if you could somehow find a clutch type pulley kinda like what is on the ac. Then you leave the belt routed around everything except the ac pump. That way you could flip the power steering on and off when you wanted to. It propably wouldn't be nearly what you are getting now but it would still be something.

I've seen a clamp on handle that goes on the steering wheel that looks kind of like the handle on the old school buses to assist with turning. That would be badass at the track!

At least until you get in an accident and put the handle thru your chest...[:@]

It's called a suicide ****. So are you gonna keep it that way, or change it back you think?

I'm just guessing without going out and looking, but the top center idler pulley looks as if it was pulling the other direction(down) before the switch which now looks like it tensions up now.

I'm guessing it is solid and not spring loaded.

That would be cool.

lol, I just had it on for the test run. Im only using it at the track. Its better to find out if the mod works at home rather than the track.

yea, that one is solid, the spring loaded one still has the belt on the same side.

thast sweet that everything worked out dude..

i was thinkin about the steering..and having it tighter may be better for running the 1/4... take more effort to turn the wheel so you should have less overcorrection and possibly better et's ...

let us know the track advantage next time you go!
