how much can i open
it finally time to put on new spark plugs, wires, cap and roter. im going with 8.5mm wires. my question is with bigger wires can i open my plug gaps even more? right now they are supposed to be 40 but i have heared that to get better gas mileage i can move it a little more so maybe 42? can i go bigger with bigger wires or will i just run into problems?
nope look at my signature in comparison to your truck is anything different? i found this out when i opened the hood and looked at the sticker on the radiators crossmember that goes across the top of the radiator.
nope.. same thing... just you got D60's front rear.. (2500...lucky bastard)
your prolly right... i can never remember gap sizes... i always have to loook it up everytime i do plugs...

I'm on my second set of champion truck spark plugs. Just love them. great for towing/etc.
I have tried others - platnum.......... but i found the truck plugs to be the tuffest.

Plug gap was increased to .040" in 98 when they changed to a longer plug.(which youshould be able toretrofit to older models)
40 is fine for stock parts. Increasing it more just puts extra stress on the coil and cap and rotor. The difference between 40 and 42 is negligible. Unless you run a performance coil I'd stick to 40
