Default 2001 transmission

I just bought a 2001 2500 CTD. It has 146000 miles and seems to run very strong. The problem is when I put into D, it goes into gear very hard, kinda lundges. Doesnt do it in reverse, and seems to shift through all the gears well, with no slippage. Is this normal? can any one tell me where it should idle? it has a powerpuck programmer, could that be increasing the idle speed? any info would be greatly appreciated, as I am new to diesels, just traded off my hemi. Thanks.

IT is normal for the tranny to want to go (lunge) as you put it into gear...to an extent. it shouldn't be pulling hard, but maybe a slight movement. Also, for better results on your truck, try the CTD section on this site. The link is 2 under the 2nd gen link. They will be able to help ya out more.
