Need some opinions on rehab for an abused Ram
Just bought a 95 Ram V10. It only has 87000 miles on it but was used primarily as a plow truck on a private road. The transfer case shifts from 2H - 4H ok butI bent the shift linkage trying to get it thru N into 2L. It went but only with the help of a prybar and mefrom underneath the truck. I'm looking for opinions as to wether this might be an internal problem or just that it was used in 4H mostly and just needs some heavy application of PB Blaster and work the linkage to free it up.
I also amlooking at replacing the CAD with a Posi-Lock. It looks like the vacuum for the system comes off the back of the passenger side of the engine. WillI need to cap the lines to the transfer case switch ifI do away with the motor on the axle?

Keep working the linkage to try to free it up. Your also suppose to be moving very slow when going into 4L or sometimes it won't go in.
The Posi is also a good call

try draining and refilling t-case and grease linkage good. maybe it will free up.
i have to be pretty much stopped to get my t-case in/out of 4 low.
here' some pics on posi-lok. i like mine.
yes, you do cap off the vac lines. you can do it at the cad.

Thanks for the input dvaughan. I like the look of the manual Posi-loc and would feel more secure not having to rely on a vacuum operated mechanism (I had a 48 Ford with vacuum operated windshield wipers once) Not much hope of capping the line at the CAD...they are totally shot. Looks like they come off the back of the manifold on the passenger side. Will see if I can get my wife or kids to help me trace them out and cap it at the source.
I have another question...the nylon or rubber grommets on the ends of the levers on the tranny and transfer case that the shift linkage presses into are in bad shape. I thought they'd be a pretty common item at the local parts store in the "help" section...turns out not so. Are they a dealer item or can someone point me at a supplier?
