Sounds to me like a partially obstructedheater core. There is some coolant flowing through giving off some heat - but not a lot

I would start with a good cooling system flush. I would recommend youget one of those backflush kits from Prestone (~ $7) and give it a good flush. Could just be that there is some crud settled in the heater core - and that might help to clean it out.

You could also try using some scale remover solution. If you go that route,I would recommend getting one of the kinds you put in and drive for 6 hours before flushing. You don't have to drive the whole 6 hours in one shot... it can be over the course of a few days.

With the system full of water... heat up the engine and see if the heater works. If so... Hooooray! If not... it's probably a really badly clogged heater core that will need to be replaced.

Good luck!

Waaayyy too many things to check. Equally, waaayyy too little input info. Such as: Start with a thermometer in the floor outlet and measure temp. on a fully warmed engine. List also the outside air temp. at the time the duct temp is taken.
Some (not all) things to check: 1) as mentioned above; restircted (clogged) heater core. 2) kinked heater hoses. 3) balky water pump or t'stat. 4) blocked cowl intake vent (leaves, debris). 5) Faulty blend door.
If all was well last (heating) season and summer (a/c system) worked well; then suspect a cruddy cooling system. If that is the case, FLUSH!!! with a flush solvent (may take more than one application).
Also, have the cooling system pressure tested to ensure a solid system to start with. Then, check the above...and post back your results.
