Default How to add a tachometer

I have a 99 Dodge Ram 2500 V10. It did not come with a tachometer. I use this truck for towing my 27 foot 5th wheel and would like to monitor RPMs, especially in the hills. I went in to look at them at an auto store last night and noticed the instructions said they were not for the dual fire coils. We'll of course the V10 does fire 2 cylinders at once so I'm assuming these addons are not for me. Anyone know where/how to get Tachs for this particular vehicle?

Have you looked into replacing your stock gauge cluster with one that has the factory tach in it? If you do it through a dealership, they can update the odometer chip so it is still nice and legal (versus installing some guage cluster from a truck that has different mileage then yours).

Most manufacturers make a programable tach these days for 4 - 12 cylinders. Stewart Warner & VDO both do this & here is a link to SW install instructions, scroll down to the calibration sectionof the below pdf.
