Default Mods...

Hey everyone,
In april i bought a 99 5.2 1500 4x4, After a couple issues.... needlessly (i think anyway) replacing the MAP sensor, when it was really the rear abs speed sensor, to fix
the good ole abs and parking brake lights being on and the speedo not working properly, I started thinking about mods, wondering what people think and where to start.
I was thinking exhaust... but does that really increase performance? And what do headers do for you? Obviously this is the first vehicle I've wanted to upgrade so i dont know
a whole lot about what to do. Anyway, any input would be great.
thanks guys
Matt

Do your exhaust and intake before anything else. I recomend going with a dual exhaust settup your choice of muffler, i have flowmasters thats what i like... Headers are a great upgrade..... All together the exhaust system will decrease backpressure giving you more mpg and power.... They dont do you all that good tho unless you get a good intake, I have the K&N fipk Gen 2 intake on mine.... All together with thoose simple mods you could get as much as 35 hp and 45 ft lb's of torque and maybe 2 or 3 more mpg's.... But if you get average stuff which is what i did your still going to spend around about 1100.00 dollars or so, plus installation on the headers and exhaust unless you want to do that. But start from there.

engine is an air pump. easiest way to think about it. get more air in, and let it out easiest, will result in more power. there are ENDLESS threads on the arguement between backpressure in magnum engines (exaust), so do a search and you will find your answers.

Best place to start is a homebrew cold air intake, costs 40 dollars max. Again, many threads on that as well.
After that, go exaust, then headers, then a fastman throttle body (www.thefastman.com)

Also some cheaper mods are installin a 180 degree thermostat, go to audiolite spark plugs, upgrade your cap and rotor and wires.
