Fluctuating RPM's While in cruise....
Just wondering if any of you have ever expierenced this and found the solution... The first road trip i took in my ram was from Chicago to Tallahassee Fl, about 5 months ago right before i left so i dont know if the problem is still there or not but i am sure that it is. What was happening was when i wasset oncruise controlon the hiway usually going about 70 mph the rpms bounced around the 2100 -2250 mark for about 10 minutes then would quit for a while and start up again... Engine never over heated or anything damaging from what i could see. I think that might have cost me some mpg's tho. Just wondering if any one had any ideas, also since i have been gone i got the Hypertech Max energry programmer, so if it was something in the computer system that should override the error shouldnt it? Thanks...[sm=americanasmiley.gif]
I had that happen to me on two different trucks. my 99 Durango and my 2001 ram and both times resulted ina new transmission or rebuild. something about the pump and not staying locked up.
I had the same exact problem. After have the dealer perform many "fixes" totaling close to $500, I went to another mechanic. He solved the issue with a $6 can of OMC (outboard marine corporation) engine tuner. You probably have bad carbon buildup.
Go get a can; run the truck to full temp and then spray the whole can into your TB. Shut the enginee off for 6-8 hours. Then start the engine and let the crud burn away at idle/fast idle. Expect massive white smoke for 15 minutes. After all of the white smoke clears, go for a 20 mile ride to make sure the cleaner is all gone.During the end of your drive, test the cruise, I think you'll find out it went away.
I perform this trick once a year now and have never experienced the issue again. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the help fellas, i pray that it has nothing to do with the transmission... Im going to try the tps first and if that doesnt get it im going to try using the can of OMC but even if the tps works ill use the OMC, but if it comes down to it ill get someone to look at it... Hope its a easy fix, ill see when i get back in november!
